Default Heating & Ventilation Faults ?

Hi guys, just for my own curiosity this one really as I have a on-going problem with my heater at the moment and I am reasonably sure I know more about what is likely to be wrong with it than my dealer, lol. Getting rather ****ed off with them and the problem at the moment.
I remember a while back Andy(ex admin) said he had some parts changed on his climate control as he had clicking coming from the dash and so did someone else(cant remember who now).

After speaker to Mark,(GSI) this morning, turns out he has also had some stepper motors changed on his CC as they were not working and noisy.
Now I haven't got the full CC, just the normal air con, but I am reasonably sure that the end parts, ie the stepper motors will be the same, it is only the control parts that vary.
So, simple question, has anyone else had any parts, particularly the stepper motors changed on the heating/ventilation system ?
And what were your symptoms, IE, just noisy/clicking, or had part of the heating/ventilation system failed, IE unable to direct air or change temperature etc ???
Just wandering how common this was becoming and how many people had been effected ?

    Cheers, GG.

I have this problem with my ECC (since the end of september ) : 6 loud clicks behind the glovebox when recirculation is set on. Since then auto-recirculation is switched off and I switch it rarely on by pushing the button.
Problem will be solved at next service - was no problem for my dealer; he was only surprised that I knew what was the problem (what I could thanks to expert Mark )

PS: neilgsi and woodenman reported the same problem (both ECC)

Cheers m8, seems to be more common on ECC models, and in my case not the directional servo, but the temperature one.
Just wana see how many others have this !

I posted about something similar a while back m8 in this thread:-

    http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15699

    Got no feedback, sadly.

It was intermittent at the time and I cant say I have noticed it doing it again for a while. Never got around to getting it checked, but when its next due its service I intend to mention it.

I dont have CC in my 2004 SRi, just A/C and it never made the noise when the A/C button was pressed, only when the standard heater speed was turned up to number 1 setting or above.

Right GG, as per the phone Convo yesterday, i'd ask them to look at one of the 2 servo motors that are connected to the drivers side of the heating chamber, accessable through the drivers footwell..

there is the servo motor that diverts the air around the vent system, that one is part number ' motor/servo/ air ventilation flaps timing 9180210.....

But for too much heat, or no response to the main temperature controller, then sat next to it is the one for the mixed air temperature ( i.e. how much air it diverts over the heater matrix) , That one is known as .. motor /servo/ with coupling rod/ air mixer flap timing.. pt no. 9180212... yet again on the drivers side of the heater box, via the footwell...

    Happy hunting me old chap..:..

Lol, cheers m8, much appreciated, good job I don't have to do long journeys isn't it !!!

Funny you should say the motors are in the drivers footwell, I was in that area before the car went back this week, just tidying up some wiring from the removal of a certain black box.
I didn't go in that panel, I was above the pedals, but while my head was there I noticed the screw hanging out of said panel. Now I know it wasn't like that because I refitted that panel myself a few months ago when I routed some wiring behind, so I now know my stealer has at least been in there !!!
I'm in two minds now, do I leave it and let the chimps try and suss it, or should I whip the panel off, smack the motor (gently, lol) and see if it works, lol ?

I've had the control unit replaced, but no problems with the servo motors.

i'd unclip the acuating rod and see if the vanes are stuck, or even if the motor moves when you turn the switch.... worth a go isn't it..

Yeah, I might have a look tomorrow, still half tempted to leave it to the chips to make themselves look stupid, lol.
But if I have a look while it is currently stuck, at least I will KNOW what it is, lol.
