    Default Fuel filter leaking

Basically when I've been changing the fuel filter it's been a pain in the arse. What should of been easy has been annoying.

Couldn't get it out the cage at all. So I undone the lid with the screw driver method which I didn't like to do but I had no choice really since I couldn't get it out. Changed the filter and the seal with a new one and it didn't leak at first but then it started to leak later on that day.

Tightened the cap up a bit more using the same method and its slowed down to a seep now but still leaking from the lid.

Any suggestions on getting it out and if its over tightened will it also leak? I kno it's only meant to be 30nm which is hardly anything really.

    Tighter maybe?

What u do need to do is remove it out of the cage and properly tighten it. It have bar pressure recommendation marked on the lid. I tightened it by hand using dry cotton cloth which helps grip and tighten more than ur palm allows.

It applies similar to recommended bar. So u'll need to get it out. Do it from underneath and really wriggle it side by side as well as pushing it up. it will soon give.

There is a plug at bottom so careful u dont yak it out until its unplugged.

Good luck ;-) (done this 6 times to 5 different vectra)

O ring was replaced when I fitted it. Came as part of the kit. Forgot to mention that part.

Ill try and remove the cage if I can. It's so tight. I thought it might of been clipped in in some way as the Haynes manual says to use a screw driver down the right hand side to release the clip but I obviously couldn't find one.

Its 30NM that it needs to be torqued too. That's what it says on the lid.

Thanks for the advise though. I will give the wriggling a go now I know it's not clipped in.

Thanks for that. Although it stil says stick a screw driver behind the filter housing and twist to release the clip I'm assuming shame it doesn't show what cop your releasing. I'll have a go again though see what I can do. Try tighten it more or slacked what ever the case may be.

Might actually be leaking from the top pipe seal and not the main seal now. Is it possible to change the seal on the top pipe?
