    Default Snowflakes

Why are they so prone to cracking?

I fancied a set but dont fancy carrying my family around on wheels that could crack - anybody had one go much worse than a crack?

We used to have a mitsubishi galant, I fancied the alloys off a sport but started to hear horror stories about them breaking up - every set I saw for sale was damaged so I never bothered.

I'm only surmising, but the larger the wheel diameter, the lower profile the tyres fitted usually. Means less rubber to help absorb any bumps and knocks, and therefore the wheels get more of a battering. Some designs are just going to be more prone to damage than others I guess.

I think it's to do with distance between the spokes also I think they are just soft. which is a shame as they are lovely alloys still

Even vxr wheels are prone to cracking. Low profile tyres don't help

I have 18" pentas. Big gap between spokes and seem a bit soft. Only one crack so far though.

I recommend 18" XP2 wheels they are sporty multi-spokes which look good and have the strength of the multi-spoke and the extra rubber a 45 wall gives.

Running 245/35/19 might help. And having a higher PSI. such as 42-44 all round. You have to help yourself as much as poss. The rest is down to your luck I guess.
