Default Gear oil for high mileage cdti

Probably this subject has been done to death but I couldn't find a definitive answer...

We have a Vectra Z19DT with 150k miles. I believe this uses the F40 gearbox. It is reluctant to enter 1st/2nd when cold, but improves when warmed up. I've lubricated all parts of the gear linkage which helped a bit but still not as good as our 130k mile signum.

Should I replace it with the standard GM gear oil, or is something else better for a high mileage gearbox?

    cheers,
    Paul.

they came with 3.2 litres and there was a TIS article on the very issue that you have. the Remedy was to only fill to 2.4 litres.

Done many and works a treat.. From 2007.5 they were filled with 2.4 from the factory (think it was 2007.5 - maybe 2008)

....and remember - undo the fil plug before you undo the drain and drain out the old oil

Changed mine on my previous 180k F40 box and it was like new again... No history of it ever being previously changed and I measured 3.2 litres drained out (was a 2005.5 car - facelift)

Got the GM synthetic transmission oil in the end from the stealers - was only about £7 per litre. Be doing that same time as I change the engine oil this weekend, hopefully it'll make a difference.

Never understood my local stealer's parts prices - for most parts and fluids they are very competitive, but occasionally they have a completely stupid price, like £81 for ONE 2.0 dti glowplug, £57 for 5 litres of 5w30 oil...
