Default Losing the will to live....

    Hi People,

So, heres the story, my own personal horror story!

I have a 02 Vectra C 2.2 LS, its a great car (Was a great car) it decided to have the - from what i have managed to gather - the usual 'Dead dial syndrome', we all know the symptoms so ill not go into them. After many an hour trying this remedy and that remedy, i bite the bullet and went and had a full check, codes abound and viola!!! CIM unit...New CIM unit has been fitted, coded and can you believe it, its not made a blind bit of difference!

My local wallet openers (read garage) are at a loss, they advise a full strip and investigation to see if its 'Something further down the line' If the car was newer, id warrant the further and extortionate price, however at a total of just shy of 500 quid so far, its starting to get to the point where i wonder if i should just give up, trouble is i love the car and I've done ever single one of the 85k in it and its also in mint condition, so much so that the guys at the garage have comented on just how clean it is.

So, my question....Any ideas as to what might be done to save my old mate from the 'Bin'

Thanks in advance and hope someone can help and or shed light?

    M

Replace fuse 17 in the fusebox in the end of the dash board if you haven't already done so.

Fingers crossed that helps, but how annoying if he's spent £500 on a CIM and a 20p fuse fixes it! Surely you would have some grounds to go back to the garage and tell them you wanted at least a partial refund or something?

To make him feel better, let's send him off to some place that charges £100 for a fuse, so he doesn't think "Darn, I could have fixed it with just 20p".

There may even be fuses in the back of the fuse cover, so it could even be a free fix....

Regardless of the outcome, I have a mental image in my head of the OP giving said Vectra a "damn good thrashing" a-la John Cleese, lol!
