Been best man 5 times - shows how old I am.

The best lines I've heard from others were : "Last night the groom slept like a baby - he woke up every 2 hours crying for his mum" and "being asked to be best man is like being asked to sleep with the queen - it's a real honour - but nobody really wants to do it."

Know your audience, judge it wrong and it can spoil someone's day. Try to take all the little issues away from the bride and groom - always get between them and the wedding breakfast staff - their day should have no problems at all. Wait until later in the day when the service, meal, speeches, cake cutting and first dance is over with before you start hitting the beer - not much to go wrong after all that is done.

Dont try to sleep with the bride, the brides mother or the grooms mother. It can get a bit awkward....

....... even more so dont try and sleep with the groom...lol Ive been best man a couple of times and i found the best thing to do is not to get pi$$ed on the day, secondly find out as much funny stuff about your mate, dont forget to say how lovely the bride (and bridesmades) look. Dont be nervous. Good luck.

    I've been married 22 years.
My best man tried to talk my wife into running off with him on the day of the wedding!
The wife didn't tell me til the bloke had moved away from the area.
    Sometimes wish he'd succeeded!

When you have wrote your speech, but it onto cue cards with writing large enough to read at arms length.

Means you shouldnt miss anything out.

I used that one! lol Been best man 3 times. I stuck about 20 sheets of A4 together and rolled it up then said to the audience I was going to keep the speech short and sweet. I then stood up on the chair and let the paper roll out. Everyone laughed and it broke the ice really well and once you have them laughing you relax.

You can use things like "They say love is blind....****** must have been to marry *******"

Try and say atleast one thing that will relate or be funny for the grandparents/parents/siblings age groups that way everyone feels part of the speech
