    confused MIL showing

    Hello all,
I am hoping you can help me. The MIL on my Vectra C diesel 1.9 120 has started to come on after the engine has started up from cold. It stays on for approx half a mile then goes out. If the engine is allowed to cool down for about an hour it comes back on again, then half a mile or so goes out. The car seems to start and run no problem and has been regularly serviced. I have tried to investigate the problem, but my scanner, SealeyVS8699 OBD11/EOBD, does not show any stored fault codes. Anyone had similar MIL issues or has a thought on this, car has done 15k since new egr fitted and boost pressure sensor cleaned.

    thanks.

Hi mate, my signum 1.9cdti 150 does this and upon checking the code it points to the glow plugs. Plus I've read on here with people saying the same thing which is a faultly glow plug or two! If you know how to check glow plugs ( resistance check ) you will hopefully find the faulty one. If you don't then do a search on here or Google, its simple checking them.

That is strange that you get no codes. I use an app called torque on my android device paired with a Bluetooth OBD dongle and it reads all my faults perfectly. The code I'm getting for the glow plugs is P0380 with exactly the same symptoms as you. Just to reassure I've been driving the signum like that now for a couple of months. Need the money to buy a new set of plugs although prices are reasonable problem is I'm broke

    ***** UPDATE *****

Found a local Vauxhall specialist with tech 2, he hooked it up and confirmed it was a general glow error, so a new set of glow plugs going in on saturday am. It would appear that the code reader i have will report engine management errors (engine symbol) but not mil (spanner light). Spot on with your assumption of glowplugs marco.
