Default My kids have fired me

I come back from working away next week so we asked the kids what they wanted to do in their week off as I will have them. Surfing they replied.

So we booked a week over Easter at Croyde Bay in January to fit in with the daughters exams and her mum wanting to take her away and my boys mum

Daughter then tells me last week can't make it as she has a ticket for One Direction (Who she now hates) but has to go as she can't let her mate down. I said what about letting me down? The whole holiday was arranged around you! I get the "I know dad but I paid £30 for this ticket and can't let my friend down" Hmmmm I paid £700 for the accomodation but you can let me down and I have not seen you for 5 weeks......thats a 15 year old lol

Then my son says "Dad do I have to go?" I say to him I thought you wanted to go? I get the frank reply "I'm only going cos you told me I had to!" Silence then I replied yes you are damn well going after spending £350 on a new surfboard and wetsuit you wanted and you both asking to go surfing. He then replies ok just if I stay at home with mum I won't have to get up and can lay in bed on the Xbox all day.

I suddenly realised my son would rather spend a week on an X Box rather then experience the real world and my daughter has got to an age where friends are more important then her old dad

I've been made redundant by my own kids!

Been there, eldest now 20, youngest only 6.5 but she'd rather be on PC/iPad/TV than do anything physical, I'm not sure this is progress :-(

I knew with my daughter there would be a time when friends become more important then everything else and I guess we all did that as kids

I think this modern age of Xbox/PC/Ipad has a lot to answer for. When I was a kid we made our own adventures and never sat indoors even if it was pouring down with rain I remember pleading with my mum to let me go out so I could sit in my den with my mates talking about stuff (I think thats why films like the Goonies are such a big hit with us 30-40 somethings as we remember thinking like that!)

Well the boy is defo going as he missed the last one as he did not want to go when I asked why I was told by him "Just cos" and it resulted in a big falling out with his mum for not backing me up so he has no choice!

I don't ever remember being told I WILL go on holiday. My parents said we are going to the beach for a week and you were greatful and could not wait even if it was only 30 miles down the road.

Your just no longer cool i'm afraid, its happened to us all over the years fella, they reach that time of life where hair starts growing in "places" and hormones give them ideas above their station.

i have 2 kids with the ex and 19 yr old son and 13 yr old daughter, my daughter lives with her mum, she comes to us every other weekend and on holiday with us etc etc and she is a great gal, her little sister loves the ground she walks on and i have to say she is just great when with us, but when i nipped into her school a few weeks ago to pay for her paris trip (£350) i saw her in reception at break time as arranged by her and she more or less shunned me because she was with her friends, i was not impressed as you can imagine....

perhaps it's just a ''i live with my mum and cant be arsed syndrome'' they have at that age, i dunno but i feel for you mate.....
