Question rain/light sensors JL or EX, what does what, also compatible auto dimming mirrors?

what the difference between the two sensors, i note there is a JL and an EX..

    1. I can't find a definitive answer.. From what i have read I think the JL is just a rain sensor and the EX is both a rain and a light sensor, is this correct? I have seen that these sensors have different connections so will require different looms. Also are the JL sensors for halfcan and the EX for fullcan or is that info a load of carp?

    1. While I am at it, I note two different types of auto dimming rear view mirror. They have differing amounts of wiring but the same connectors. One type says its for use with the full sight and light pack, the other mirror is just and auto dimming light with no additional notes. One says its for the full auto pack inc door mirrors and the other comes will no further info.

    1. And last but not least, the ribbon cables that make all these things work. With different connections on the varied sensors and RVMs there will enivitably be different roof looms. What loom (Part number please) will be needed to make the EX rain/light sensor work with an RVM that is compatible with folding/dimming door mirrors, and last but not least it must have connections for the rear centre cabin light and the vanity mirrors (sun visors)

Did I miss anything that might be needed to make a full set? Its not for my car of course...

Iirc JL is for preface mate and EX is for facelift as there wasn't auto lights on preface half can cars...
As for ur mirrors there was autodimming memory mirror big chunky one as a part of memory pack if u had memory seats as a standard

autodimming mirror ribbon cable isn't part of roof loom it goes separately from mirror itself to REC so has nothing to do with folding mirrors etc....

Light and sight pack is basically auto lights and auto wipers. As seb says auto lights wasn't available on half can cars.

If you have illuminated sunvisors you most likely have the full roof loom Nige.

nah it does not have those mate fitted yet mate, they are in a bag in the boot lol .. it has the auto dimming mirror already retrofitted though.. Hence my need to check the ribbon cables that are fitted..

from from Seb says it seems I need two, one for the mirror, sunvisors, rear cabin light and front map lights and alarm sensors etc. Then a second is needed for the EX light/rain sensor... I was hoping to get the whole thing connected in one go on a single, but that seems to be the bit i need to get answers on, some more tips needed and more reading to be done..

Just for info - regarding "Which Sensor"

Listing of the rain sensors available -

    a translated excerpt from Opelniedesachsen..

however I noticed that they kept saying low beam detection... I am sure it is the high beam that is being detected (dazzled from behind), and so I haved changed the wording to suit.

Here is the brief break-down which rain sensor fits which windscreen
    to MY04 = upto September 2004 (half-CAN)
from MY05 = from October 2004 ( all full CAN including relevant pre-facelift)

JL = sensor to MY04 for normal tinted windows
XX = Sensor from MY05 for normal tinted windows without automatic High Beam Detection
EX = sensor from MY05 for normal tinted windows with automatic High Beam Detection
UD = sensor to MY04 for Solar Reflect discs
XY = sensor from MY05 for Solar Reflect discs without automatic High Beam Detection
EY = sensor from MY05 for Solar Reflect discs with automatic High Beam Detection
