    Default Towbar Electrics

After trawling the internet, there doesn't seem to be a definite answer on how to connect the electrics.
There's lots on fitting a genuine bar and electircs. (just plug it in).

But fitting a bypass relay is a different question it would seem.

With a 55 reg vectra c, with the bulb failure system etc, where do you wire the bypass relay? Can it be wired into the black socket in the boot under the hidden pocket, and then simply install a fuse to activate. Or does it need some sort of module to activate this plug?

It seems very vague on wiring one of these relays, as most seem to opt for the genuine item. But at 120 quid, i think vauxhall can do one.

Any help on retro fitting the electrics is much appreciated, because if i put a metre on say the rear cluster on the pillar (estate) then the metre gets mixed signals when testing between indicator and side lights. Most weird!

Does anyone have a clue on which plug out of the back fuse board controls what? Pictures or diagrams would be helpful, as there is a severe lack on the internet.

A job I need to do myself at some point. The bypass relay gets its power via a feed straight from the battery and the wires splice into the relevant lighting wire. The wires from the trailer socket connect to the relevent connecter on the relay following the wiring diagram. I've got a page with a good set of instructions bookmarked on the pc so I'll post the link when I can

I've just cut the plug off and wired the relevant wires to the bypass relay.
I still haven't got a live supply though, even though the red cable to the plug is meant to be permanent live. (which is where i want to feed the bypass live from). rather than having to feed a separate one. but obviously there must be a space in the fusebox to activate this red cable?

    UPDATE

I have just tested all connections from the plug in the bottom of the boot, and there is zero to any of the cables. I assume you do need one of the trailer modules check control things? Is it part No. 90463123 that i need to activate these cables?

That`s the best page I`d found for instructions. The relay I got came with an extra fuse and enough wire to run right to the battery although I did think about splicing into the red feed wire to the fusebox in the boot for the power

Sorry if i'm being dumb! Do you mean you just wired the bypass relay onto the harness that's already live, as opposed to what I've done by trying to utilise the trailer plug (X24 connection)?
And no buld failure light, means that you don't have any nuisance bulb warnings?

Yeah i think i need to ditch trying to use the plug and just wire it straight into the car loom.

Does anyone know if the wire colours on the black plug are the same colours used for the rest of the rear lighhting? i.e. black/yellow being brake light, black/green right indicator.... and so on and so forth.

We did the same on my dad's veccy last year. We just scotch locked the wires directly to the wiring loom in the boot. We found out which wires went where by looking at the wiring behind the rear cluster board. No problems with bulb error either.

I may be wrong but I think I`ve seen something somewhere about the trailer module needing activating by tech2, it might depend on if the car is a half or full canbus
