Default 1.9 8V CDTi lumpy take off EGR related possibly

    Hi folks,

back in a griffin now since the sale of the v6 but have gone to the fuel of satan.

    Diesel with 110k and FSH.

Started getting really slow off the line and a bit lumpy between 2-3k rpm. No smoke at all and the turbo is boosting fine (can hear it spooling).

Spanner light comes on and when i plug my mac scanner in I get P0400 - EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION FLOW.

    MPG has also gone down.

Took the EGR valve off and gave it a good clean (after reading previous threads). only im not sure how far the valve is meant to open/close. when i trued to operate it manually by hand it barely moved and just clicked.

put it back on the car with hardly any difference apart from my car sounding like it has a little dump valve on it. It was definitely the EGR i took off and cleaned (top right hand of engine when looking at it) held on by 3 13mm bolts and 2 exhaust style flanges.

Still getting the spanner light on and P0400 EGR Flow message but it comes and goes but always runs lumpy regadless.

Not sure where the vac pipes are etc so if anyone can supply pics id be very grateful.

Clean throttle body. And check the main board for solder cracks.

Thanks for the advice bud. Unplugged the EGR and it ran fine. No hesitation etc. gonna take it off in the morning and completely reclean it. How far should the plunger move/open the valve?

Right, completely stripped and cleaned EGR. Plunger free and working. Cleaned both pipes, inlet, boost sensor next to EGR. ALso gutted new injector seal, welded up exhaust hole pre cat, replaced 2 split vac pipes. Still getting p0400 code relating to EGR flow. Is there a way of testing it. I don't want to pay £70+VAT for a new one if mine is working and its something other than the egr

New EGR fitted and car is now runniong brilliantly. EML hasnt come on yet so will suck it and see. Going to scotland next week so will do a regen of the DPF on the motorway and see if that clears it. May even throw in a bottle of DPF cleaner with a tank of derv and see how we get on
