Exclamation Have I REALY had a new head and a remap or been conned?

    Experts,

I had a stuck glow plug, went through all the motions and in the end was told that all the pullers and techniques were useless, as in attempts somewhere had damaged the "Water Jacket" so I needed a new head.

It has been done and cost me a fortune. However I have been skeptical. How do I KNOW for sure that this is a new head and not just my old one removed and refitted? As it feels no different to my old one, sounds and looks exactly the same.

Also they did me a "Freebie" and remapped it at the same time as it took weeks to get my car back. Again how can I tell if this has really been remapped or not? As it feels no different?

    Any advice appreciated.

Rolling road is the only reall way of telling a remap, or line up next to a standard car on a private road and see which is fastest

Remapped to do what, though? If it was to increase MPG, well only the onboard computer or doing a fill-to-fill measurement will tell. If it was to increase BHP and torque though, then believe me - if the remap is real you would be in no doubt about it. If you're struggling to notice extra power and sometimes you think there is some extra and other times you're not so sure, then there isn't any extra.

you can tell right away if its been remapped as Paul said and for the head try and remember any noticeable marks on you're old one and check see if there on the new one TBH you should have marked the old one.

Do you have OpCom? If so do a live data run and see if the EGR is always 100%

Yep an MPPS can be used to read the ECU flash memory by the diagnostic port. Anyone experienced in mapping can open the file in software and see whether or not it is standard. Its hard to tell with opcom, especially if it has been remapped 'badly'.
