    Default Astra Alarm Help!

    Hi all,

I know it isn't a Vectra, but this site is full of many knowledgable chaps!

Its my old car (now owned by my dad) 3 door Astra 04plate SRI.

The problem is that the standard VX alarm keeps 'going off' for no apparent reason. Its been going on for a week or so now. I've checked all the contacts/interior light switch things and they all seem fine.

Sometimes it can go a couple of days of being fine, and last night it went off 4 times in 20 minutes!

    Any idea's?

The power sounder is usually the common cause aswell as the bonnet pin swich apparantly.
I was lent an Astra Coupe & soon found out they hadn't told me he alarm would go off at its own free will. I found you could lock the car without arming the alarm by leaning across through the passenger door, push the lock down on drivers door which locked the car & then closed the passenger door making sure you had the keys in your pocket before doing so.

There's a great How 2 fix the sounder here

What it is is the sounders internal battery which requires replacing my dad had exactly the same problem with his. Its located in the inner wing under the plastic i think the whole unit has to be replaced which is i think around the £100 mark. apparently a common fault.

You can replace just the batteries in the sounder which die. Details are in the How 2 above I believe. Or you can just replace the sounder but remember if you get second hand you are also getting second hand internal batteries.
