Default Have I got a broken spring? Pics inside..

Car has started to make a weird noise, it's most noticeable if I turn the wheel while sitting still, it can almost be felt through the accelerator pedal? It's like a Grind/clunk noise.

Just jacked it up but I can't tell for sure if its a spring or not. There are no obvious cracks or chunks missing.. And the spring looks complete as per pics..

Is there any way to tell for sure?

I cut a section of the upper rubber sleeve off to try and see if the spring is complete..

Also while up in the air..

    yes 7 cracks. FFS.

    cheers!

Measure the ride height both sides and see if there's a difference on one side?

**** about the snowie! That's one reason I intend to avoid them!? Shame though coz they look awesome!

Drivers does look SLIGHTLY lower but i'm not sure.

Just popped down to see my local mechanic, he looked at the springs & cant see anything wrong with them, he reckons its the top mount.

    Im still thinking spring though.

The spring (if like most other vauxs) should butt up against a metal tab in the bottom of the spring cup, if its not then the end is likely to of broken off. Also check higher up the spring to make sure its not broken up there.

I agree. But look at the spring, its concentric, so if it was broken, it would still be fully around the outside. Is it on upside down?

Not sure what you mean by this? Its more than possible for the end of the spring to break off (less than half a coil for example) and still look normal until you get right in there and look, recently this happened on the girlfriends mk4 astra except there was no clonking etc.

Just got mine 2.2 Sri '03 a few weeks back and it's making a noise when turning at the front and on bumps at the back. Both on off side.
I have a bush gone on rear upper suspension arm (banana arm) causing the noise from the rear and also for th wheel to "camber" in at the top.
Front noise is wish bone bush.
You won't be able to tell with a bounce etc. the only way is to get the car off the wheel you think ate the cause and with a jimmy or crow bar lift the wheel up and down and you'll feel it. Take it a decent garage and they should look at it for free and with no obligation.
This leads nicely into my question but ill post separately as don't wanna hijack the thread.
