    Exclamation red diesel or regular?

hi all!!! i have just changed from a 2004 1.8 petrol vectra to a 2004 2.2dti. i didn't want too but i need more miles for my pound. a mate has told me of a good garage nearby that supply's "good" red diesel. this garage is selling the stuff from the pumps!! by all accounts the local taxis have been running on this stuff for years. i am a little bit apprehensive about using it but i can pick it up for 50p a litre. if i do start using red, what could it do to my nice new 2.2dti elegance. i will post pics of it soon, i am still in the process of adding my irmy bits and pieces. thanks for your help.

I would worry more about the fact that if your caught, it's bye bye car!. Vehicle will be siezed and you won't be able to afford another because you'll be paying the rather large fine!

Shouldn't do anything it's not supposed to do. It's just diesel with red dye in it.

    Hi,

Won't do anything to your engine except stain things. If customs ever dip your tank or the dealers etc report it, expect a visit from hm customs and excise with a very large bill for the back duty that you have not paid for the whole of the mileage for the time you have had the car. Taxis by me do it, so i'm led to believe, but dodgy at best, not worth the risk in my opinion

    Regards

    Daz

It won't damage your cars engine, if they use it in a £750,000 combine harvester ???
But like the others have said, you run a very high risk with not paying the duty , so is it worth it ?

hey fil. I'm taking in all the advice on the duty issue but hey mate, i think the cops here in belfast have better things to do than dip for red diesel, hahaha. i've never seen it done (hopefully i haven't just jinxed myself)

Its not the cops that do it... Its HM Customs and Excise and VOSA.... and all it takes is one tip off from a member of the public, a disgruntled garage worker or even a surveillance operation on the pumps themselves.

If you think the saving is worth risking your car, a criminal record and a huge fine, then crack on, best of luck to you.

    Talking

thats it mate, we are taxed on everything!! isn't it nice to feel that you are getting one up just now and agian. i am by no means any sort of "rebel" or "law breaker" but just the thought of saving an extra 40p on EVERY SINGLE LITRE is lovely. i do nearly 500 miles a week so i'm not just talking a few quid of a saving a week. it'll be about £20-25 A WEEK!!!! its tempting, tempting, very very tempting.
