Smile Problem with cruise control on Vectra 2005 cdti v6

Hello every one just joined & need some help or guidance on how to fix at reasonable cost a problem with the cruise control ie it has just stopped working. Vauxhall put it on the computer & said it was the switch but when the went to fit new switch said it was not the switch after all and the control module needed replacing at cost of £490 + Vat fitted. the car is only worth about £1,500 so told them at that price, no thanks.

Has any one got any information on where I can get a Module at a reasonable price & how to fit it. I worked in motor trade 30 years ago so I'am not completely useless at such things but would not like to attempt it without some guidance as dealer said it needs to be reprogrammed when fitted and I obviously don't have the gear to do that.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Altham.

    Usual faults on these are
Faulty switch on the indicator stalk
    or
    Weak clutch pedal return spring.

test your clutch spring first, by driving and holding the pedal up with your left foot.
If the cruise control now works, then it is the clutch spring that needs replacing.

The indicator stalk could be either a faulty stalk or dirty contact faces.

not that common to have to replace the entire CIM, just for cruise control..
there would normally be other items affected too.

    Default

Agreed, this sounds like a failed CIM
The main issue is that both keys (and any others you have) need to be reprogrammed to the new CIM

What you could do is look at a third party warranty
I have just purchased the AA Repair Cover
This has a 15 day waiting period, then you can commence a new claim

Note you will have to call out the AA first for them to confirm the fault
However as above expect other faults to appear with a faulty CIM
Next, you will need to take the car to a different VX dealership
Contact the VX dealership in advance to see if they have an account with the AA, then all you need to pay is the warranty policy excess (currently £35)
