Default gear re-alignment or fluid level?

    Hi guys,
I have a F40 gearbox in my 06 veccy c and have the usual notchy gear change(espcially from 2nd to 3rd) I know that they are known for being notchy and there are 2 ways of making things smoother

1)drain off the oil and refill to suggested level

    or

    2)re-align the gears(via the how2 on here)

My gearbox is really notchy when i change between 2nd up to 3rd but what i have noticed is that if i change gear when turning and sometimes going up/down hill gear change is silky smooth

Does this sound like fluid related notchyness(the fluid moving around in the box causing the occasional smooth change)

    What do you guys thinks?

Try the realignment first since its free and if its still no better try changing the gear oil

Realigning the selector rods and changing the oil level are for two subtly different set of symptoms. Do the oil change if you get a crunch between 1st and 2nd when cold, and 2nd and rd when warm. Do the rods if the gearlever feels too tight and doesn't want to move.
