They are basically a cr1 but much cheaper. They are around £65 delivered and will give you around 185bhp+

Not adjustable m8, just plug in and drive
I've not had any problems and i've had 2 of them, running one on my signum now. I only know of 1 person that has had problems with one but it might not have been the box at fault.

    Hi Scott,

Just fitted one of these so can comment -

Ordered off ebay - you'll find the link here easily enough. Don't foget to specify your model, year, engine size and version etc when ordering - they will email you anyway if you don't (as I didn't !!) - however adds to the time. Once confirmed arrived quickly however.

Fitting was relatively easy - just unplug the connector from the common rail on top of the engine (this was actually the hard part as the yellow clip underneath needs to be unclipped first.

Fitting the leads the right way round proved to be somewhat trial and error however - the male/female connectors can only go one way of course, however the plugs at both ends can be rotated 180 degrees, and the box will not work unless correct. It took me three goes to get it to work - I followed the pictures on this site however they did not work for me - the plug attached to the common rail must be the right way round - which was opposite to the pic I used - then it worked fine.

The symptoms of it the wrong way round are idle at 1500 rpm abd will not rev. This will also throw a spanner warning light which goes out when started up. Obviously the ECU picked up the rail not working correctly. Getting it the right way round seems to be a bit trial and error - just wondering if the boxes are wired consistently.

Once installed correctly and fired up to check it all works properly - use cable ties to secure the box and leads to a convenient position.

The box does make a difference - not earth shattering - however gives a bit more low down power, and more torque when the turbo kicks in.

Definitely a worthwhile investment I would say, generally the car is more driveable and gives you more of a kick when required. Still too early to say re MPG as I'm still on the same tankfull of diesel.

Don't forget to notify your insurer if you go ahead.................

    Steve

right im almost sold in getting one of these, just wondered about ahem telling the insurance company. is it likely to affect it much has everyone declared them and do you just simply tell them you have a tuning box on? i`ve read a lot about people asking about reliablity surly its no different than back in the old days when people used to put bigger carbs on did they declare them!

Mine was a doddle to fit (5 mins max, well ten minutes cuase it took me 5 to find a hex to remove the engine cover).
Definite difference in performance. Well worth the £65
OBE due to Caterman for the find, I'll send Tony a text

    Default box

..deffo worth fitting, it turns a 150bhp sri from a "somewhat sporty" diesel into a road muncher.

Its quite hard to believe how much harder the car pulls with the box on...i regularly overtake in 5th gear now thinking I am in 3rd!

They make the car much more driveable in my opinion and reduce the "lurch" from the standard engine when the turbo kicks it to a constant strong torquey pull right past 4000 rpm.

Definateley get one - at 65 quid they are cheap as chips. They are also quite technical - doing a babelfish translation on the ebayers websites suggests they monitor the engine temp to ensure that the temp has reached a minimum before applying full power.

I have declared mine to my insurer. Declared it as a tuning box designed to improve MPG. They have added it to my policy at zero increase in premium
