Default Fuel Gauge - Calibration ?

    Hi guys.
The fuel gauge on my car shows 3/4 full when it is brimming at the filler cap.
Is this something caused by a sensor problem or a faulty gauge, or can it just be re-calibrated with something like Tech2 or Vauxcom ?

Do a gauge test on *com and see if it goes all the way to the max. If it doesn't, then it's likely that either the needle has been off and put back incorrectly or there's an issue with the gauge. If it does, then you've probably got an issue with the fuel level sender.

Thanks for that, if the gauge only goes to 3/4 with the tester, is there an adjustment for calibrating it ?

I think it maybe possible to re adjust.

if not just bend the float in tank lol

it could be that the level sensor just isn't reading correctly.
    or resistance somewhere

    its only a variable resistor

Hi matey, I thought it was probably only a VR, just wasn't sure if it existed and if so, where it is .
Bending the float in the tank sounds pretty hit and miss LOL, plus, how would you get at it to bend it ?

The resistor is built into part of the tank pump.

it was more a tongue in cheek thing how ever I have heard its worked on corsas from vx tech

getting to float involves lifting rear seat and undo the top of pump.

sounds daft but have you tried filling it until you see fuel in the filler neck?

Oh **** I had hoped that Vx might have fitted a fine tune VR to the unit, but I guess that in order to do that, they would have needed to fill the tank, fat chance of that I guess.

Yes, have filled fuel to the brim and it is only showing 3/4 everytime. I guess it's something I will just have to live with, had just hoped there would have been a "fine tune" LOL
