    Default 3.0 v6cdti

    Hi,

I am considering swapping my 1.9CDTI(150) Vectra for a 3.0V6CDTI Signum.

Is this a wise move ?

i am going to look at the Signum next weekend and was wondering if you all could steer me in the right direction, as for thing for me to look at ?

    All help grateful.

If they are the same age and mileage, I can't see any benefit
However, please provide further details of each

For the V6 CDTI, assuming the same trim level, then you should already know what Vectra items to look for; electrics, steering, suspension, DMF, and so on

That leaves the engine, as that is pretty much the only difference
It's pretty bomb proof, and should only require one repair every 50K miles
However, each repair tends to be expensive
As a result, make sure you have a warranty
Check it covers the Fuel Pump, Suction Control Valves, Injectors, and EGR Valve
The other minor items should be covered

There are two service schedules for this engine, so check the Service Book / History
The ECO Flex is 30K miles / 2 years, so if the services match this confirms the previous owner(s) have followed the Service Indicator
However, I have found once the car has passed 15K miles after the previous service the indicator falls sharply and has never reached more than 22K miles
Finally, check the current Service Indicator (mileage left to next service) against the Service Book and make sure it matches

Check the oil level and condition
Again, compare it to the above
If the car has been serviced within the last 1000 miles / 1 month it should be clear
If the car has been serviced within the last 5000 miles / 6 months it will be black, but still very liquid
If the car has been serviced more than 10K miles / 1 year it will be black with a sheen, and less prone to form droplets of oil that will easily fall off the dipstick
If the car has been serviced more than 20K miles / 18 months it will be black with no sheen, and stick to the dipstick; equally drawn on white paper you may see fine metallic particles, this is normal and confirms the oil and oil filter are saturated

    Examine the Pollen filter
This should be replaced annually, so will give an indication of the time since last service

    Examine the Air Filter
This is replaced every second service, again examine and compare to the Service Book

The Fuel Filter is not so easy, discussed before

Don't allow the engine to warm up or idle for long periods
Take it for a steady drive at up to 40mph, before really letting it show you what it can do
Listen for any noises, there shouldn't be any
Make sure all the switches and air con are working
Finally, do a hill start, this will check the clutch and DMF

    I have a 06 1.9 CDTI 150 Exclusiv XP1 with 73000 and the signum is a 53 Design Auto with 78000 on the clock.

The reason for the change is i have always wanted a Signum and a diesel, thus is the only one i can find for sale in edinburgh, not really looked much further a field, don't really want to travel far at all for one. if possible.

If you can recommend another way to go, always open to ideas ?

One rule I stuck to when hunting the GSi .... if you want a good vehicle you must be prepared to travel to find it.

Agreed, you either have to wait until one becomes available or be prepared to travel if you are a specific engine and trim level
It was just by luck I found mine, the dealership wasn't even aware they had it!

I have been waiting two months for a suitable Insignia Bi-Turbo within Scotland

My previous Vectra B came from Central Stock, although ironically the previous owner was just 20 miles away
I went to see one Vectra B in Newcastle, but it was a wasted trip even though I spent a good half an hour checking details
