Default 3.2 MPG with aircon off

Set my climate to ECO a few days ago, which means the aircon is not running. Since then my mpg is slowly creeping up. it even idles lower, and the display says 0.2gph instead of 0.3 with aircon on.

Anyone else noticed this? I don't seem to be getting any condensation yet, and I'm quite enjoying driving with heat on my feet and fresh air from the open windows on my face.

I did try it for a while in an effort to improve the GSi's MPG.... what I found though was that it didn't make a whole heap of difference with general driving. On long runs (Shropshire to Hertfordshire) on the cruise with the needle at 60, the best MPG ended up around 37-38 with ECO displayed and around 37-39 with ECO off.

Obviously if the conditions are good enough to have windows/sunroof open then it makes no sense to have the aircon on too (but is awesome playing through the forest with all the windows open, listening to the beautiful V6 sound ), but general day-to-day at the moment I just leave the aircon on.

Most modern cars are designed to be more aerodynamic with the windows shut, so if you are driving below 30mph windows open, above that windows shut and aircon on. I have tried all options and to be honest when you think you should be getting more M.P.G. you drive like Miss Daisy (well her chauffeur). So shut the windows aircon on and go for it.

WOWE... hang on a moment fellas, are we discussing saving a couple of MPG On a 3.2i V6!!!!!! What on earth has happened here ????? Tell me this is a dream, sorry I mean nightmare. The words saving fuel, fuel economy and driving like miss daisy should never be spoke about in the same thread never mind sentence as the words 3.2i V6 or GSI. Come on guys lets make this thread real. You just don't buy such a beast with a real mans engine and then discuss trying to save one MPG by messing with the air con. Its just madness.... You should all be ashamed of yourselves. Now go and stand in the corner.

You'll be talking about basket weaving or knitting patterns next.

I hope you are not referring to my post, LOL. I don't care what type of car or what engine you have, unless it is a Toyota Prius (aaaaarrrgghh, what a pile of pooh). If you can't afford , or are too worried to drive it the way it should be, then don't buy it and certainly do not moan about it because everyone is in the same boat regarding the cost of fuel.

I'm a windows down, music up, air-con on type of guy. Press the loud button with your foot and enjoy the V6 as it should be. Just listen to those six pots sing....!
