you need some double din removal tools.. cost a couple of quid or so from the bay.. but there may be some cheaper somewhere

You need to either use the official removal tools which poke down the holes left by the removed grub screws, or improvise and make your own from a wire coat hanger, or 4 small screwdrivers.

As above. Down the sides of the radio are four metal clips that hold it into the surround. By inserting the proper tools, coat hangers or something far enough down the holes you push the clips inwards, releasing their grasp and allowing you to then pull the radio out.

    So the technique is:

    Remove 4 grubscrews (where present)

Insert removal tools until they are felt to 'click'

Push removal tools 'out' (ie toward side windows) and at the same time pull the headunit toward you.... it may well be quite stiff if it's not been removed in a while.

Once the headunit is almost clear of the dash, support the weight and don't pull the unit too far until you can see how much free cabling you have to play with.

Be patient when extracting the radio - sometimes these can be VERY tight in their cages.

Assuming your's has never been previously removed, you should not have too much trouble,

but I have struggled with some unts where the release plates have been bent out,and the release tools do no more than force the locking tangs into the wrong direction.

Also - make sure you have the radio code / car pass before taking the radio out - for obvious reasons.

Thinking about it, if all the OP wants to do is plug in a parrot hands free to the back of the stereo, could he do it with the glove box removed and just reach around the back of the stereo without needing to take it out?

    depending on his dexterity.

It can be done by just removing the glove box.

just be careful that you don't blow fuse number 12 by accidentaly shorting the glove box light on the metal dash support spars. ;-P
