    Default 12v power socket

was going to car vac the vec earlier, till I remembered it had no cigar lighter, its got the ashtray but the bit where the cigar lighter should be is a blank silver plastic plate.

so was wondering does that mean my car wont have a 12v socket in the front for vacuuming etc. or can I just prise the blank plate off and there will be a 12v socket underneath, just in case the car was specified with the optional extra cigar lighter??

a bit like how the wiring is there on vauxs for elec windows even if the car doesnt have them, just incase it was built as a higher spec car and did have them.

    any gen?

yep its got the ashtray with the flip up opening lid right next to where the cigar lighter should be even though it states the cigar lighter AND ashtray are a £50 option so if it didnt have 1 I expected it not to have the other,

think I'll prise the blanking plate off and see if the socket hole thingy is there. just dont want to damage it hence why I asked first.

Yep, you now have to specify the Smokers Pack to get the cigar lighter. I thought they still came with a 12V socket in the front - obviously not!!

It's quite possible the wiring is under the plate - have a look. All I think you'd need to do is is get the plate with either the 12V socket or cigar lighter - whichever is your preference.

well it'll be the 12v socket 1 I'll get then, as the cigar lighter clicks into this 2 provide a 2in1 function.

whats best way to get the blanking plate off?

Mine doesn't have the power socket either - tightwads. Even my missus Corsa has one. I only found out when I went to plug my phone in & couldn't find it.

Its useful but £50 is a bit steep.

did you check under your blanking plate mate?

even if only the wiring is there I'll buy the 12v socket thing and hopefully its plug n play.

You'd best check that. The 12V socket has a little flap on it and is a little smaller than the cigar lighter one i.e if you get the 12v socket, you can't put a cigar lighter into it - it won't fit. If you think you'll ever want to use a cigar lighter, get that one and you can then just plug your equipment into that one

nah, its becoming a taxi, not allowed to smoke in it, even the driver/owner.

any gen on how much a 12v socket fitting is from vaux?

If the wiring is there, it'll be a piece of pi55 to fit it. If it's not then it'll be a bit more involved - couldn't give a guess of Vx price. It's still perfectably doable as a DIY job. You'll just need to remove some interior trim/panels to get to a feed for it.
