Trying to change alternator and am stuck!!

Hi Sorry if this sounds dumb but I was following one of the how to's on changing the alternator it was not for my specific model but from the pics it looked familiar. I got all the way to removing the bolts from the alternator the top one came out no probs but the bottom one is to long and hits the chassis before enough of the bolt is clear of the bracket. How do I get it out do I have to drop the engine out or something? My car is a 2.0 DTI on an 02 plate any help would be much appreciated.

Just looked at you know what ! - it says remove a few things so you can swing the alternator out to get to the bracket mounting bolts. Then remove the bracket mounting bolts to the engine block, then remove the alternator complete with the bracket.

PS The above was for an early 1.8 petrol (Z18XE) by the way - may work for your DTI

Ahh ok the guide I was following was for 1.9 cdti and there was no mention about removing the alternator bracket aswell.Thanks will try again today in the daylight

No I give up will have to take it to a garage to get it fitted, the bottom bracket is part of the engine mount so I cant see ho to remove it with out droping to engine.
