    Default Front Wheel Bearing Signum

    Hi All,
Ive got a rumbling soung coming from the front o/s, well its coming from that area anyhow, its like a rumble sound. Not loud but annoying, I think it maybe a wheel bearing any wondered if they are hard to replace as it appears you replace the whole hub complete. I have seen one on ebay for £65, easy job?

as per my other post to you in the main section....

it's not hard to do,and that is a great price for the hub unit, they should be 120 odd quid from VX, so it's a pattern..but if it cures it......

Before you go stripping it and buying new parts, do this...

    1 - Check Tyre pressures

2 - Check pads for wear

3 - Check cv boot and do a full lock test to check it isn't clicking

If all of this proves not to be the cause then go ahead and replace the bearing. hth

Thanks for the advise, I have done 1 and 2 but how do I check the cv boot? I take it a lock test would mean putting steering on full lock left and then right and having someone listen for clicking? The dealer did replace the track rod ends and checked for any play in drop links but the noise still persists, gets worse after bout 5-10 mins driving friom cold.

Yep, thats it, full lock, if anythings worn it will clack.

What brand of tyre do you have? if they are different on the back to the front, switch them around and see if the noise migrates with it. Some tyres do naturally hum depending on the compound used.

well i switched my tyres around and discovered that the droning noise from the rear has disappeared, and now is at the front. I thought that i had road noise resonating in the back. Thats a good result so have just had 2 new goodyears nct5's on the front. But there is still a rumble kinda wind noise coming from sumwhere, gunna have to let someone else drive while I sit in the back and try and locate it. Its really getting to me this rumble, its a hollow rumble sound if that makes sence.
