    Default 3.0CDTi Clutch

    Hi all

Massive problem that I could really do with some help with, please.

Having just spent nearly £1500 on mine and my wifes cars the last thing I need now is that the clutch is very certainly about to go on our 3.0CDTi Signum. Back in the summer my mother attempted to drive the car with the handbrake on and when my wife returned to the car there was a little smoke and hideous burning smell. Ever since then after journeys around town theres a faint burning smell and this morning she phones me to say a strange noise is audible if stationary and she presses the clutch pedal down. Now I am fairly mechanically minded and normally do all the work on our cars but confess I have never had to touch a clutch on a modern car, in fact the only clutch I changed was on my first car a 1.4 '90 plate Astra so I only have sketchy knowledge of them. Well she phoned a VX dealer this morning who want over £500 for the parts and to fit is another £500+ coming in at a total of just under £1100. She also phoned Mr Clutch who want nearly £1200

Now I would attempt this job myself but without a manual of any kind I am lost with where to start.

    Is this a DIY'able job?

Does it require any specialist tools?

    How long should it take?

Does anyone make a workshop manual which will guide me with the job?

Thanks for any help or suggestions, if you own a garage feel free to quote

On my Z30DT Vectra I got the parts from here http://www.thepartspeople.co.uk/Default.aspx DMF and clutch kit including csc was £500
If you are doing the clutch kit do the dmf at the same time. On the vec the frame had to be dropped to do the job, didn't attempt it myself and had it fitted at an independent for £350

Parts2clear also had the complete kits for around £545.

I did it myself on our vectra, but it's quite a hell of a job.

We pulled the engine out of the car, so we had enough space.
Everywhere where you need to be for a bolt is something in the way.

In total it had cost us about 10 hours work, engine removal, extra repairs and engine placement included.

    Hijacking your thread mate.

My DMF is just waiting to go with a bang. Do you recommend replacing the clutch as well when the whole thing is disassembled? The clutch feels fine for now.

I'm pretty sure that much like the 1.9CDTi, it's best to do it when you have it in bits because you'll only end up going back in there to do the clutch in the future.

Most always advise to replace everything.

Complete clutch kit and flywheel, but that's what they say in Holland.

Just check how everything looks if you disassemble the clutch.
My flywheel and clutch both had burn marks on it, so i had to replace all.

Also this tool is very handy for assembling the clutch back:

V6 cdti is a lot more of a pain than other vecs.

came to 750 for parts on trade price for clutch, flywheel an slave cylinder

and took me 9 hours to fit on a ramp.

its recommended to change flywheel at same time.

General advice from guys on the site is yes. Replace the whole clutch and csc as it's a big job and sod's law you might have the dmf done and a few months later the clutch or csc could go and it will cost another arm in labour.

Euro car parts with code PARTS25 would be £425.69 for clutch kit and DMF but they are out of stock for the clutch kits, so you would have to call. I would get an LUK DMF as the Sachs ones seem a bit pants, my LUK lasted 110K but the Sachs one it showing signs of wear after 20K.
