    Default Rad Pack remval

Chaps - humor me for a while

Is there actually a how to someone has done for rad pack removal?
Ive had a search and cant see anything....

Not for me of course - but for a friend (not a member here) and I said I would ask the question. He is based in newcastle so not a job I can do for him.

    Cheers Ant

    Ah Ok - thanks Nige,

I dont suppose you have any of those threads to hand? I just want to pass that on if I may - and add anything I can think of also.

As a side - I think I will be doing a turbo replacement soon, so will also try and take some pics.

hah I can't find any of them..

Lets assume the bumper is off already. Basically you need to first drain the coolant out of the water rad by using the bleed valve in the OS lower corner of the rad, once drained you can remove the top and bottom water pipes. You then unplug the fan module. If you have an intercooler you will need to disconnect the boost pipes of course. The aircon system will need to be emptied at a licensed place before it is disconnected, i disconnect at either the side of the rad/condensor or/and further along where these pipes connect to the compressor.

Once all pipework is loose you get an E18 (I think) socket and undo the lower rad mounts so they hand down which will lower the rad pack out of the top mounts.. You then easily remove the whole rad pack out..

that from memory btw.. so its the abridged version but its not a hard job to do..

    Ta mate.

Seems to be my recollection too... I think I removed the AC pipes from the compressor end as they were tight on the rad end...

OK cool - when I do the turbo - if someone is handy with the camera I may get some pics up too..

    thx

yeah its what I did when fitted my FMIC though when I got turbo done mechanic told me I had put a hole in the AC rad, I never switched it on in fear of damaging the compressor so imagine my surprise when I bought one from a scrapers when out of curiosity to see if there was any pressure left I found it was full and no sign of a leak!

so now have a spare air con rad floating about more junk for the missus to moan at lol
