    Default Engine falls out Y30DT

    Hi,

Hope that you might have a little idea what might be going on.

In the afternoon we went to the gas station and nothing was wrong, pulled in on the highway with 160 kilometers per hour in the 4th gear, so a bit higher in the rpm.
    Nothing wrong al working fine.

Bought some fuses and plugged in some fuses.

4 hours later we want to go the friends and after 2 meters the traction control light starts burning and engine falls out.

Put i back in the driveway and went back in to get the Op-Com.

This gave me 2 specific codes which relate to the engine.

    P1216 and U2105

    P1216 has 3 different descriptions?

According to TIS2000: Control unit finds electrical problem in circuit.
According to Op-Com: Interference, voltage converter module injector
According to different Opel forums which have the fault code lists: Pedal Position Sensor C Circuit High Input
And also found the description: Injector 4, problem to the +mass.

U2105 means: No communication with the ECM.

Strange thing is, if you pull up slow if will stay on longer.
Once you kick the pedal and make a few rpm, the traction control light will start to burn and 2 seconds later the engine quits.
Wait 10 seconds and it just start again.

Since i already had experience with the injectors, i'm 100% sure this isn't the same and it's a real eletrical problem, but it just came in and i don't know where to search it, so i'm hoping one of you have experience with this code/problem.

(i'm sorry this is immediatly my second post, but it's just really frustrating that i can't find the answer myself :-) )

Codes in this range (P1xxx) are non generic and mean different things depending on manufacturer. I think that the Opel/Vauxhall meaning of P1216 is a problem with the throttle position sensor.

Out of interest what were the fuses you "bought and plugged in" for?

The car is from May 2004, engine now just clocked 220.000 kilometers.

Bought the little small fuses, put one in the dashboard for the sigarette plug and one in the UEC on f23, cause my rear drive light won't burn when i turn gear into reverse and since i'm trying to make AFL working we removed the fuse of F23 in UEC, cause it keeps sending power to my headlight and won't shut off, so we wanted to check if that problem was related.

It just came from one moment to the other.

    For the history record:
    - April 2011, 6 new original Denso injectors
    - July 2012, 2 new fuel solenoids for the fuelpump, no metal splinters in fuelpump.
    - Augustus 2012, new clutch and duall mass flywheel.

For the solenoids the whole top of the engine was build off, but never a problem after and for the clutch we removed the complete engine from te car, but also after that no problems.

(sorry if there are any typo's in de text, typing via my cellphone.)

I'd be tempted to take those fuses out for starters and see what happens - could just be a coincidence but then again............

I just received a reaction from the diesel expert company, who also helped me with the solenoids of the fuelpump.

One of the few in Holland with expertise in y30dt engines.

They say that we've got to check the cables between the injector computer and injectors.
They have never had a computer failure caused by a 5 to 30 amp fuse.
And they also claim that the electrical part of the injectors is almost never an issue.
This afternoon i will check further, if i find anything that would start this problem i will let you guys know.
Always good for documentation for future cases.

    Hi Guys

Since i'm running out of ideas i'm trying again.

Yesterday we changed the injector module.
We have been measuring all the cables last few days as TIS2000 describes how you need to measure them.
All cables give the right measures.

So we changed the injector module and started test driving.
From standing still pulling up, all went fine for about 20 times en when the engine was warm enough my partner took it for a bigger test round.
All went fine, pushed the engine into enough rpm, but nothing happend.

So we took the Vectra back home and almost home my partner pushed it into rpm once again and all fine..
But on the last corner to turn off into our street, my partner pulled to Vectra to the side, so i could go first. When he pulled up after me vectra fell out again. Same as all the previous times.

Got the op-com and checked again and it came with the following fault codes:

P1216: problem with the voltage converter of the injectors
U2105: Invalid data from the engine control unit
U2103: No communication with Can-Bus (high speed)

I really don't have a clue anymore where to search.

Almost getting so desperate that i'm almost at the point of buying another 3.0 for 250 euro, but that one has more kilometers on it and i don't know what is replaced and what isn't.
(i know what i have already replaced on my engine, so i'm a bit afraid of taking that risk)

If I was a betting man, I would say it looks like a wiring loom problem. All of your faults seem to be related.

    "No Comms with ECM"
    "Invalid data from ECU"
"No Comms with Can-Bus (High Speed)"
    "+ve Voltage Problem Injector 4"
    etc. etc.

Make sure it isn't earthing out anywhere and check for signs of chafing on the loom. I personally hate wiring loom faults as they're usually a pain to successfully track down and eradicate, but the basics are (and as it's pointing to the injectors, this is where I'd start checking) to check for continuity between components. Unplug an injector, check for continuity between it and the other end of the plug (at the ECU end). From what I can work out (but please do not trust me on this as I am not 100% sure, double check for yourself) you should be checking continuity between the following pins:

    Injector 1: Pin 1 - ECU: Pin 90
    Injector 2: Pin 1 - ECU: Pin 82
    Injector 3: Pin 1 - ECU: Pin 91
    Injector 4: Pin 1 - ECU: Pin 83
    Injector 5: Pin 1 - ECU: Pin 92
    Injector 6: Pin 1 - ECU: Pin 81

Ideally I'd check these when the car is in a "failed" state, rather than working.

The fact that the ECM is giving invalid data though, could mean there's a short in the loom that connects it to other components, so the above tests may not show it. Personally, I'd consult a good auto-electrician close to you and see if they can run any tests on it.

Once again, please do not take this information as a definitive guide, and have it corroborated by someone familiar with these engines (I am not familiar with the Y30DT unit at all).

    Best of luck!

(ETA: It seems you've already checked these cables, so I would then move on to the section of loom that connects the ECU to the rest of the car systems. Check for obvious faults, chafing, broken insulation etc.)

Well i've been searching the internet and found some one in Poland with kind of the same probs.

He renewed the yellow relay in the fusebox (just called the dealer here and if they track the number it's the relay for the fuelpump.
Which kinda let's me think, when i'm looking at the whole picture that it might be right..
but a good friend of us keeps asking what pin no 62 would be connected to on xc37, wireplg on the ecu.

The whole story with this relay could well be possible, if you ask me.
But our friend keeps saying that the engine should keep running, but i saw what a fuelpump can do with injectors when it's not working great.

Maybe some one here can tell me what pin 62 is om xc37 in the wiring, than i can calm him down and push for a relay.
