    Default z19dth Egr Valve walkthrough

    Hello,

    Its been discussed here there and everywhere, but still not got 100% clear idea of what i need to do to blank of my egr valve,

    From what i gather there are 2 sides on the valve, exhaust being the square side and pre valve is oval.

    I read that unless you want chance of eml light coming on, best way is to have one with holes in, so its reduces not fully stops.

    Questions are;

    Do you either have oval or square, or both? Which is best???

    Are they acting as gaskets, so wouldnt need to put new gaskets on????

    Best thing to clean it out with?

    Many Thanks

    Hi,
    If you are blanking the EGR off then buy a square blank plate off ebay between £3-£8, doesent matter which one you get but don't bother with the one with holes in it,I tried it on mine and the EML came on anyway.
    You need to totally un bolt the egr to fit the blank plate which means releasing the pipe from underneath it (2 bolts) and the actual egr unit which is 4 bolts.

    Cleaning.....why bother if you are blanking it off?? If you get sick of seeing the EML on your dashboard then simply unplug the EGR valve and leave the wire hanging......like magic, no EML!!
    The gaskets are metal anyway so you shouldnt need new ones unless you damage them when you remove them.

    Once blanked off you could get to work cleaning your throttle body out, needs removing to do it properly and you will be amazed how caked up it is!

    If your prepared to wait there's a polish eBay seller that does both for about £8 delivered and its in 4mm so better then most of the UK version... I used both, and I will blank the turbo/EGR cooler side eventually too

    With the EGR being 4mm further out, and the EGR feed pipe being 4mm lower did it all line up and fit together ok?

    Well for me there's a slight smoking from the EGR cooler area and rather then remove completely I plan to blank that side, plus don't think the hot gasses entering the cooler with nowhere to go can be all that good, although I've yet to read any problems with blanking and the cooler, although they can fail/leak...

    The way I see it gases move from areas of high pressure to areas of low pressure. EGR is effectively SUCKED through the cooler and in to the intake when the valve is open at partial engine load. When you put your foot down the valve closes and all the hot exhaust gas goes out the exhaust. The hot gases wont want to go into the cooler if it's blanked on the inlet manifold because as you say there's no where for it to go. The path of least resistance (or path from high pressure in the turbo to low pressure - the atmosphere) for exhaust gas is out the exhaust so the EGR cooler should stay at its normal temperature or even at a lower temperature than it would at normal operation i.e. without that continual heat exchange of hot exhaust gas flowing through it.
