Default all you bargain hunters....help me out!!

i've been looking around for a suitable replacement for sophie's little corsa in the form of an astra. i've managed to convince her that an astra is the way forward....she was after an MR2!!

so.....if some of you happen to come across a nice little bargain then please do let me know - i don't mind travelling as i'm mor likely to get a good deal that way.

what i'm essentially looking for is either an Astra Design or SXi, with either a 1.6i or 1.7 CDTi engine. Sophie does less than average miles per annum so i'm not sure if she'll get the benefit of the diesel engine.

I was looking through the sales brochures and on paper the 1.3 CDTi engine looks like a bit of a cracker, can anyone comment?

    Budget-wise we're looking around £8,500 for a 2005-2006

I'd really appreciate it if you guys keep an eye out when browsing the net or passing your local dealership, or if you know someone who wants to sell their Astra.

    cheers!

You should be able to get a sweet Astra G coupe for that money.

After talking to the Vx technicians I'd stay clear of the 1.3 CDTi's. Mind you they don't like most CDTi's anymore.

They're probably sick of the site of them, there's a few about!

Astra's are holding up well out there. Found a nice 1.6 SXi on a 55 plate with 15,165 miles but it's £8,799 LINK
It is local to you though i think

They do have a few there so something might be suitable.

H, if mileage isn't much of an issue and ecomony isn't 'so' important, stick with the 1.6 petrol, far less complicated with less to go wrong, quite a rugged little lump really..it won't set the world alight with acceleration but it should see the dealer less than a CDTi and will still be a big improvement over her 3 potter..

i had the astra h 1.7cdti, and it was gutless. if u can stay with petrol, do it. ok road tax £110, excellent fuel consumption, and cheap insurance, but the cabin is quite cramped for me and i am only 6 foot

Cheers Tony, that's what we're looking for - and it is fairly local, may nip up there and have a look
