Passenger door mirror glass fell out .

Hi Chaps,
Passenger door mirror glass fell out of its housing on the grass, so it’s ok nothing broken and no scratches, so I decided to stick it back on, but I am unsure of what adhesive to use and how much to put on the back of the mirror glass, do I put a few blobs only or should I cover it all with a thin layer hoping the heater element will work and still heat the glass up, the plastic with the heater element don’t seem to have any old glue on it and neither does the glass. Any help/ advice will be appreciated.

Mine are heated and the glass fell out too. Managed to catch it. Stuck it back in with clear silicon sealant. Heating element still works and the glass is still in. Must be a couple of years now.
Ad to how much adhesive. I put several good blobs on the reverse of the mirror glass.

I used black silicone to fix mine in - got a big tube of it from Screwfix for a couple of quid and it's been on a couple of years now without a problem. I would check the drivers side as well as mine was hanging off when I checked it.

The exact same thing happened me last week! The passenger side mirror fell out, i was unsure what to stick it with aswell as its heated but i used superglue in the end, i used about half the small tube and i put a line of it all around near the edge and then 2 or 3 lines in the center. Its stayed on the last week anyway, through a powerwash and all and its still heating and defogging

But as said above, the same happened on a passat i had before and i stuck it with a small bit of tiger seal and stayed on and heated grand aswell! I just had none this time so the superglue done the job!

Sounds like a good excuse to buy some new blue tinted ones...

Thanks for all the help guys, I thought superglue would be a bit too strong and might burn the electric element underneath. Anyway, I think silicone sounds Ok, but does it have to be something heat resistent? or will any type do? I've also got some alardite adhesive I might use!!

The superglue didnt effect mine anyway! But as for the silicone id say any will do as it only gets warm it wont get very hot

Is this a common fault lol mine fell out when the wife got in the car but landed on the road i didnt een notice till i went to look in the mirror and was like WTF is blocking the mirror i cant see out it lol
