Default 1.9 CDTi ECU destroyed by water, help pls

    Hello guys,

I am having some terrible problems with my car.

Last week the car wouldn't start, I tried to turn on the car but it didn't react at all, it just kept flashing some lights. I somehow managed to turn it on after disconnecting the battery for a few minutes. I had the spanner light the whole trip to the service centre, and the car shut itself off a few times while i was driving - and it was only about a 3 mile run.

Tech2 indicated problems with the ECU, so we took it off and opened it, and we could see water in it :/

It was obvious that the water was damaging it for a longer time as quite a lot of oxidation and corrosion were present.

Their best electrician said he can't do a thing to fix it so now i'm looking for a new ECU.

I checked ebay and there are various ECUs, ranging anywhere from 50£ to 500£. some sell only the ECU itself, and some sell it complete with the lock, key, CIM module and some other electronics.

I was wondering, what do I need? Can I get just the ECU or I need some other parts as well? Can the ECU be reprogrammed to work with my car? What should I do now?

    Any help is appreciated

You can get just the ECU unit on its own as long as its Tech2 cleared before. Or if they supply the correct code for it you can clear it when you install it.

check to see if yours is a C9 or C39 ecu, there is a difference, but being preface-lift car its more than like C9

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately the car is currently not with me so I can't check the model number until tomorrow. My car was made in 2004., and a friend from the local breaker's yard told me he has a spare ecu taken off a 2007. Vectra with the same engine. Would that ECU fit my car? If one is C9 and the other C39, does that mean I have no use of that ECU?

that has not been tried before to my knowledge, they changed from C9 to C39 roughly in year 2005 (when they went to the facelifts) so I wouldnt like to say yes or no that question...

Thanks for your assistance plasma. I guess I wont bet on the 2007 one and I will staring searching on ebay. Could it matter that my car is LHD whereas all the ECUs on ebay are from RHD cars? Are the model number (C9) and unpairing all that I should pay attention to?

As far as I'm aware yes, the C9/C39 and make sure its unpaired OR at least supplied with the code to be able to clear it.

it might be a stupid question but is 'C9' or 'C39' written somewhere on the outside label or it can be determined with tech2? I am asking because I couldn't see that written on any of the models I viewed, but they do have a 2 letter code on the bottom left part of the sticker - for instance this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-o...item27cfeba52e

My ECU was also LL, and today a man from the service centre called me and said they tried fitting a YZ ECU, but they had no luck. So should I be looking for just the LL model, because I saw a lot of different types (all from 1.9cdti, - YZ, LL, AG, ET, HB..)

When I was having ECU issues (turned out to be wiring though) everywhere I spoke to insisted the ident codes (the 2 letter codes you speak of) had to match. Vauxhall also claimed the ECU must be from a car with the same engine, i.e. one with a LL ident from a Z19DTH won't work in a car with a Z19DT however I have no idea how accurate that is.

One of the places I spoke to said C9 is just the code for a car with no DPF. When I had the ECU out I couldn't see anywhere on it that said C9 (or otherwise).

Since my ECU turned out to be fine I can't say for sure how much of the information I was given is true sadly.
