    Default Z19dth engine problems

    Hi,

I noticed i posted a similar thread yesterday in another part of this website and noticed this is where is should be. So decieded to put it in here, to make sure i could get the best help.

    Vauxhall Vectra 1.9 CDTI 150
    2005 160,000 MILES

    * Engine starts fine, put stutters, bit of shaking, slight rattle/knocks where its not idling properly. Spanner light is on, took it to Halfords autocentre today, then plugged it in, and it come up with codes;

    P0621 - Generator
    PO380 - Glow device circuit

Basically told me they dont do the repairs needed but they seem to think this could be the problem i have?

Phoned another person they recommended, and they can only look at it on Monday. Usual mechanic due tomorrow now. Wether he can source it.

From answers from posts already got on this site, and a lot of googling, other things suggested are egr, injectors, glow plugs.

Anbody help with any suggestions if glow plugs can make it like this?

When i brought it back from picking it up once engine was at operating temp was fine, no issues whatsoever. No excess smoking/ pulling fine etc etc

As per other post, i had squealing noise, Halfords said it was the belt or tensioner, just basically said change both.

Other problem, temp guage not working, suggested new thermostat, fair enough,

Abs light on, not checked to see if abs sensor plug back in yet? If its sensor, arent these part of the hub?

Any help or advice gratefully appreciated

just found this in another search, any way to check a glow pug is working???

    Irregular Engine Behavior

Even after you have your vehicle started, your glow plug can still affect your engine until it becomes properly warmed. You might notice your engine misfiring as a result of a bad glow plug. Listen to your engine as you shift into gear. If you detect the sound of rough idling or a piston misfiring that stops after about 10 minutes of driving, check your glow plugs.

update: curiosity, took it out then,

started fine, rough idling, foot flat down for 1 minute with no increased revs.

then started to come up, spanner illuminated all the time.

Put it in gear and started to go hardly any acceleration as should be, went up and down an industrial estate couple of times, power coing back as should and then the spanner went off, then took her on a road 2 miles each way and back, and was fine.

So looking likely that the glow plugs/circuit could be problem here. Mechanic due tomorrow. Wish i knew how to test relay and plugs i would of give it a try, eager to know!!!

Need a multimeter to carry out the tests

ohm meter across each glow plug in then looking for 12v power to each one to show circuit is ok

I am not sure but I think if you put a multi meter across the top pole and go to earth then it should read more than 12v as anything less would be zero meaning the circuit is broken, the resistance you measure is in ohm's I think and the glow plugs drop off in this value as they wear, there is a proper given value for the reading but I am not sure for this car what ohm's it should be, sorry not a mechanic but it is something like that.

Should be under 1 ohm for a good plug

No response at all to throttle from a cold start points to the EGR being blocked. After a minute or two after the car is started throttle response works again? All good points given on glow plugs, readings are approx 4-5 ohms on a multimeter. anything higher will give you a fault code.
