    Default 0603 SMD conversion help

    Hi all

thought I would give my GID conversion a go myself.

I'm armed with a gas soldering iron, some solder & these 0603's I've got dron eBay.

    They look tiny?!

where do I start? Ive read the how to but my smd's look tiny.

    Cheers

Start by getting yourself a proper temeperature controlled iron , you will cause damage with a gas one.

i ordered 0603 for my oddemeter lcd screen which is same as gid smds as i was told there the ones well like u said there tiny far too small not the right ones there even smaller than the 0805 you use for steering wheel scrollers, so i just did what i did with my gid and used 3528 plcc2 smds and mounted them slightly offset over 2 pads rather than 4 if u know what i mean

Please take kman247 advice. It will end in tears otherwise.

Are you intending doing the whole car or just the screen.

I would get the iron mentioned. 20 quid off ebay for a starters kit.

If you have not tried this before i would get a spare switch of sorts and practice removing and soldering on new leds before starting on your own bits.

excellent advice and i wish i'd followed it when i did mine!!

used a gas soldering iron first off on the rear window switches and destroyed the pads!! Then saw the light and bought a decent electric iron, the difference is amazing! also if you are doing the steering wheel be very careful hen de-soldering the old SMD's i lifted the pads on 2 of mine (one on each side) so now have no SMD's fitted in those!!
