    Default Z20NET Headgasket

    Hi All

I've just had it confirmed that the headgasket is on its way out.

Garage says it will cost between 500-600 quid including head sent away to be checked and skimmed, does this price seem ok?

They have suggested i shouldn't get it done; they have all sorts of horror stories of what can be found once the heads off and how the cost can get out of hand.

I really am down about this, i've had the car 3 years and love it to bits i still have a smile on my face everytime the turbo comes in.

What are your thoughts on the above.

    It's a 53 plt with 88000 on the clock.

What are they suggesting you do instead of fixing the cylinder head? Replace the engine? Also, do you have another car to use for a few days whilst this is being fixed?

They suggested changing the engine but I don't think there are too many of these engines about that are in good condition. They have loan cars that I can use

Neo Brothers or MegaVaux can supply the engine, but I suggest you get a 2nd opinion first about the head gasket failure - it's very rare on this engine.

I trust these guys completely and plus the dip stick has mayo all over it, I pretty certain it's the head gasket.

Definately seems like HG fail. 500-600 seems about fair tbh i had a landrover freelander typical HG examplecwas qouted £1300 to do, if head is ok you should be fine. Caveman nige would have been the guy i would have spoke too. But he is out of action as we all know,

I've being speaking to various people today including mechanics and they cant believe that its the headgasket especially on this engine, they have suggested other things like the oil cooler or intercooler not sure which is relevent as i know very little about engines.
