Default Uniroyal Rainsport 2 Tyre noise

    Hi

Had my Uniroyals Rainsport2 on for a few thousand miles now. I am getting a load of tyre noise of them - so much so that I thought the bearings had gone when it first started!
Had it checked out and serviced and the noise is still there. I like the tyre but hate the noise. Has anyone else had the same problem with them? I previously had the same tyre on my Mondeo ST and never had the same amount of noise (unless I could heard it over the diesel engine LOL!)

    Any thoughts?

    Cheers

    Paul

Are they wearing evenly, could have some alignment issues causing them to wear unevenly and make some noise.

I've had Rainsport 2's for quite a while now, but it's only the latest ones fitted that started making a noise a couple of 1000 miles after being fitted. Only happens at approx 35 to 40 mph, which just so happens to be the average speed of my daily commute to work and back so I end up hearing the noise all the time.

Previous Rainsport 2's have been fine. All this co-encided with ATS doing the tracking on my car. They said that 4 wheel alignment wasn't possible on my car so only adjusted the front wheels. I'm still getting inner tyre wear on my nearside rear tyre, but they said it's quite normal because of the camber set up of the rear wheels - I know they're talking rubbish.

I spoke to the Vauxhall garage the other day about 4 wheel alignment who confirmed it can be done and if ATS tracked the front wheels by taking a reference point from the rear wheels (they used laser markers on all four wheels) then that's more than likely the problem with the tyre noise. If the rear wheels are out of alignment then using them to track the front wheels would also put them out too.

In short, it's more than likely you'll need a 4 wheel alignment doing.

    Thanks for the replies.

My noise is worst between 30 and 50 mph. Unfortunately I have just had a 4 wheel alignment done and I still have the noise. Think I will just have to keep an eye on the wear and hope that I can get used to it!!!

You're probably stuck with the noise now until you replace the tyres as they have irregular wear because of the previous misalignment.

Have you checked the tyre edges for feathering ?? Would look like buzz saw effect on the outer or inner edges ? This would sound just like wheel bearing drone ... Although I would have expected a decent wheel alignment centre to pick this up
