    Default V6 Conversion

So, has anyone done a V6 converson. My current lump is a 1.8 in a prefacelfit. Am I right in saying that a 3.2 froma prefacelift would go in without too many issues? I know I'd need to uprate the brakes and suspension, but would there be much else? Any ideas how much someone would charge to do the lot, including supplying the engine?

Sounds like a right pain tbh mate and given that you can get a decent GSI 3.2 for 2 grand these days is it worth it? Get the GSI interior and extras then too.

true, but I do like my Moonland Grey and there don't seem to be many GSi's in that colour.

I know you're probably off the idea now, but you will be talking thousands in labour. £50 an hour minimum, with a week's work for the engine swap assuming all the bits (mounts? Exhaust headers? Ancillaries?) are present and correct, that's £2k. There's no point in spending all that and not rebuilding the engine, so another £1-2k there.

Then the cost (and time) of sourcing the parts.

You can offset much of that cost by selling on your old engine, brakes etc. but basically you're looking at much more than it would cost to buy a facelift V6, and as someone else pointed out you don't get the improved spec that you would get by trading in your 4-pot for a 6.

As a very rough guide, didn't Courtenay or Regal used to charge £8k for a turnkey V6 transplant into various Vauxhalls about 10 years back? That wasn't a new crate engine either. Escalation taken into account, that's about £11-12k in today's money.

Excellent - pre-facelift headlights and engine access combined with the joys only CAN can offer. Sweet!

Really wish they had kept the bonnet/grill as a one-piece item on the facelift, would make life MUCH easier!
