Default 1.8 vvt a good engine?

    As title says.

Looking to replace the wife's zafira 1.9 cdti '57 as I am fed up with the constant problems/ breakdowns associated with it e.g. egr, dpf, dmf etc.... Never seen the spanner/ eml light so many times as I have on this thing.

I have the 2.2i vectra which runs flawlessly so thinking another vectra (petrol) replacement for the zafira is the best option.

Is the 1.8i vvt any good? What are the commons faults, if any, other than the water pump needing changing at 70K.

    Regards

Yes its a very good engine. Only known fault is the vvt solenoid, the filters clog and cause a rattle on start up but you can remove them or replace them unit relatively cheaply. Water pump does not require changing at a set interval, and as it is run from the aux belt and not the timing belt does not even need done whit the timing belt. Belt is 100k or 10 years but 80k is a more safe recommendation. Thermostat the only other real fault, but thats the same over the whole VX range tbh.

Im a 100 odd miles from 100k on a 06 plate. Only real engines problems have been thermostat and coilpack.

Most reliable car i have owned in 25 years of motoring.

Will be a crying shame when i have to sell it.

105 K on mine. Averages around 40mpg if not driven hard. Gutless low down, but ok if you get above 3500 rpm ( redlines @ 6500 )

Have changed the coilpack and solenoids in the 80K I've had it
