Default Head on collision outside my house, one car swung into mine!

An A class and a Zafira DTi Life had a head on crash outside my house this afternoon. Quite a nasty accident, both are write offs I reckon with bent axles.

Anyway, unluckily, one car swung into the rear quarter of mine, the other swung into the front nearside wing of my dads car (which was parked on the opposite of the road). Bit of bad luck but hey.

Friend of mine reckons mine might be written off too! It's worth around a grand I'd say. Not sure about the repairs, but apparently if it's around 40% of the cars value, it's written off. To be honest it'd be easier if it was written off for me. It's got an endless list of problems, and won't pass it's MOT in a few months. (No problem for me, I can still get it passed through a friend).

The damage doesn't look bad in the photo, but it's worse in real life.

The whole car swung as well, it was parked straight last night!

Also, does anyone know how the insurance side works. I rang the A class's insurer a couple of hours ago, and they said they'll ring me back tomorrow morning. If they do repair it, will they provide me with another car? Or if they pay out, how long does it take? Do I get to keep the car if I want to?

I'd say right off. Rear quater panel gone and on the fuel filler side. How does the rear O/S door open now?

Also with the distance it pushed you (up a kerb too) there must be damage underneath, inside on the boot floor pan or at least on the n/s wheel/suspension etc. Ah and dont forget the light housing which must have taken a right old whack.

Personaly I would not want it back after that, The bill must we be way over a grand to repair at garage's costs.

Sorry to hear of your bad news but may be a blessing in disguise.

    Good luck!

P.S the rear bumper could have been miss shapen too with the impact and fixings would have probably broken. They are only plastic after all.

The list will probably go on and on

    (up a kerb too)
It was parked on the kerb already, 2 wheels on kerb, 2 on road.

But yeah I think the suspension has been affected to be honest. I was driving it today after the crash and it drives like normal.

I hope they let me keep it after though, I can sell it as spares or something lol.

I wouldn't be admitting on a public forum you have a friend that is prepared to knowingly break the law by passing a vehicle that isn't safe to be a public road.

especially after posting a pic including your reg number.

as for the damage it depends on how bad it actually is. But chances are it will be written off especially of you require hire car etc. as all those costs get factored into repair costs

40% of car value isn't correct, it's down to the insurer to decide, I have known insurers pay 110% for repairs.
Id imagine you are going to be close to the value of the car for repairs.
Personally I'd be demanding a courtesy car and I would expect to keep it untill the car was repaired or the cheque had cleared in my bank account.
It took about 4-6 weeks for me to be payed out last year when I was hit and I made sure I had a car for that hole period. If you really want the car written off tell them you don't want it repaired, it worked when my old xr3i show car was hit.

I reckon it will be written off. You can ask for a hire car or if you have legal cover, you could hire a car yourself and claim it back from insurance company for A-Class driver.
