confused 150 cdti engine light on but no codes?

    Hi,
    Long story short....
I got the engine light on etc.
I cleared out my inlet manifold/throttle body a week or so ago and ordered an OBD II reader as the light remained on even tho the car was running 100% better.
I plugged the OBD reader in and it through loads of codes up relating to air leaks etc so I cleared the codes and my missis has done 125 miles today and the engine light has returned.....I have plugged the OBD II reader back in and there are no codes stored>?????
Could the engine light just be that I blanked the EGR off when I cleaned the manifold etc? why is it not storing a code for this?
    Cheers all!

yes, the orange engine symbol, (bottom right of dash) is the emissions warning, this will come on if you've unplugged your EGR or blanked it off in your case. What car is it hatchback/estate, auto/manual. If you have a estate or an auto, don't blank the EGR off until you have it mapped out of the ECU as this will cause problems. Loads of guys on here drive around with this engine light but I think this is an MOT fail so make sure you get it cleared before any tests

EGR will be causing the light to come on if it's blanked out. Not sure on why no code though? What code reader are you using? as some don't read ALL codes.

The car will NOT go into limp mode for an EGR fault.

Two options - Unblank the EGR, or get it mapped out

You should get a fault code about air leaks or something along those lines, but like tony said not all readers read the codes. But the car will still drive fine (most of the time better) signum hatchback or estate? I had problems with my EGR last summer while on holiday, left it unplugged for 4 months with the emissions light on, car was fine no problems, in the end I had the EGR mapped out.

Mine drove much better with the EGR unplugged. Spooled up quicker and pulled better too

The reader is a bluetooth one off ebay (red button on end) , it through 7 codes up initially the other day after I plugged it in and said what they related to ...on my mobile phone,I didnt really take any notice as I had done extensive deep clean on throttle body, inlet manifold, changed boost pipes, cleaned map sensor etc etc and so just cleared the codes and thought suck it and see in a 100 miles or so.
If I clear the code reader (no codes in there) it removes the engine light and swaps it for the spanner through the car light then the engine light comes on a few miles later and the spanner light goes out>?
