Default another funny noise - brake related

under heavy braking or medium brakin when carryin passengers, i get a loud humming noise as though something is rubbing (similar noise to tyre rubbin on inner arch, a deep humming, but its not that).

the noise only comes after a bit of drivin (as if the brakes or whatever needs to have warmed up first).

ive bin reading hundreds of threads about similar noises and i am leanin towards either, the wheel bearings or a warped disk.

im also gettin a constant light scrapin noise which changes dependin on speed. im believe its comin from the same corner as the noise above (front passenger).

im goin to have a good look at everything around there this weekend,
just after some advice on what/how to check. and any ideas as to what the noise could be.

    thanks
    carl

if it was a warped disc you'd be feeling it through the brake pedal as it would cause it to pulse under your foot..

It does kind of sound like a wheel bearing going.. the constant humming when it's warm is a common result of a failing bearing..

Why it's more pronounced though under braking is a puzzler thou..I'd also be looking at the pads for thickness variations and detached linings from the backers..

Gut feeling without seeing or hearing it.. bearing..

i was thinking that the bearing bein more pronounced under heavy braking could be because its under more pressure/strain with the extra force etc.

    thanks again for the info.

could well be... the only good news is that it's now modular so easier to change without a press... bad news is that it would be around a one-er..

Check the inside pad on the front brakes, my dads 2.2 Elite started making a racket like this. When you looked at the outer pad there was loads left, but the inner one was more worn.

Also noticed the inner face of the disc wasn't wearing as evenly as the outer, there was an extra 5mm of rusty disc not being swept. I assumed the noise was from the rusty bit being caught by the pad now and again.

So its getting a new set of pads 'n' discs tomorrow! Good price from the stealers too, £79 ish inc vat for discs and pads!

I dont really know if this will be any help, but I had a similar sound coming from my O/S/F. When I took the wheel off the small shield thats sits behind the disk on the inside was touching the disk causing a horrible noise. I just bent it back a bit and the noise disappeared.

Ive had this happen a few times and its always the same thing, dont really know why???

Any suggestions as to why this happens would help a lot.

had a good look at the vec over the weekend, took the brakes to bits and have found the loud humming noise under heavy braking.

the inner edge of the pads was over lapping the small inner lip left by the disks wearing. the inner lip had worn a groove on the very edge of the pads. so ive ordered a new set of disks and pads.

i still think the bearing on startin to go too, but ill get a better idea after the brakes have been changed.

    cheers for the advice everyone

    carl
