    Default Automatic debadging

Last weekend my 2004 Vectra decided to debadge itself. After a 1 hour trip down the A1, I found the 'R' dangling, the 'C' and 'A' missing, and the 'V' and 'T' so loose they fell off when I poked them with my finger. I have subsequently found the 'C' at home. All the other badges seemed to be stuck on fairly firmly still though.

Yesterday I found the 'Dualfuel' badge had started lifting at one end, so I pulled it off before it fell off too.

Does anyone else have any experience of the glue suddenly failing like that?

And more importantly, does anyone who has debadged have an 'A' they can send me? I'll pay postage...

Half of mine came off when I was drying my car so I removed them all and they all just picked off with my fingers!

Debadged mine week or so ago after catching the v with the sponge -.- They do seem to come of rather easily.

I guess I could just clean off the remnants of the glue and see how well the chrome strip polishes up. But I'd like to at least stick the 'Dualfuel' on back on, as although it's obvious that it's a Vectra, it's not obvious from behind that it's an LPG Vectra (obviously from the driver's side having two filler caps kind of gives it away).

OK, I've removed the remains of the foam pads and glue from the chrome strip (used Autoglym tar remover to soften the glue). However it's very clear to see where it said 'VECTRA' and 'DUALFUEL' because the chrome has faded and discoloured with age, except where the letters were. Anybody got any tips for blending this in, or shall I buy badges and stick them on (unless anyone's got a spare 'A' )?

I used autosol, brought the chrome strip up really well after I debadged mine, I did it in 4 parts, start at one side and do about a quarter each time with the following method.

Pop a pea sized blob of autosol onto a cloth and gently rub in small circles, then buff off with a clean cloth. work your way across and repeat if needed

Thanks - yes, I'll do that. I think I'm going to stick the Dualfuel badge back on, but getting everything spotlessly clean and grease free before I do will be the key to it staying on.

    I didn't - I don't suppose you've got one spare?

All the other letters (including the 'Dualfuel' badge) are currently in a bag in the glove box
