Default To map or not to map?

My car currently has 125k on the clock and I was wondering if it was a good idea having a map or not? I'm not lookin to have the fastest diesel in the world just something to give it a bit more punch. It's the cdti 120 and in the last 6k mile it's had a new egr, clutch n fly, alternator, injector reseal and I plan on changing the timing kit with a full service also. Thoughts and advice welcome.

I'm in two minds whether to get a map or box, I've seen the pros cons and opinions from a lot of people I just don't want to end up with a crap result either way as I'm an apprentice running a house so money isn't exactly flush. Any ideas for the best price, I'm based in Doncaster s. Yorkshire but don't mind a bit of travelling for a good result.

I've read a lot about them on here with mixed reviews and one very bad one within the last month or so that's why I'm a bit sceptical as mentioned before with money being tight, I suppose it's luck of the draw as with anything but it i don't want to be one of the unlucky ones I suppose lol.

I've just had mine remapped by teapot this weekend having used a map from a well established tuner written on Alien software. Again the safety for reduced cold performance and over temp shut down had been removed. The result is measurably improved in performance and economy on the way back. It is a massive mine field out there with people trying to make back the huge costs they paid for mapping software. In honesty the tuning box offerers a safer option if you go to a good supplier with digital boxes than most remaps look to offer.

A good tuning box bein the dtuk? Anything else? I have looked at the reviews of these and people do say they are good, again just a bit cautious as I've read some boxes work by simply just chucking more diesel in? Does anyone know particular gains you receive on the cdti 120? Any issues? Anywhere the can be bought for cheaper than the dtuk website?
    cheers matt

They do just chuck more diesel in, what do you think a remap will do?

I had a 120 remapped and never had any problems, plenty of power when needed and the fuel was good as well. This was carried out by Garreth at Map-Tech in Brigg Lincs, after completing the remap and settling down, it was like driving another car. Sadly sold the Veccy and own an Insignia, this is soon to get a DTUK tuning box, the price for the remap for the Insignia is a hell of a lot more than the tuning box, so going for the cheaper option at the moment.
