    Default Manually reseting service indicator

    hi guys and gals !
as title really is there a way to manually reset the service indicator?
i knew how to do it with the Astra but doesn't work with the vectra
the car was serviced 3000 miles ago but not at a vx dealer so i'm thinking they never bothered about the light coming on but it 's really annoying me
i am assuming that is what it is anyway as it goes off as soon as the car starts.
a pic of a car with a huge spanner over it !lol
    any help mucho appreciated!!!!

Foot on brake and trip counter switch pushed in, then turn on ignition and keep everything held for 30 seconds I think.

That's not the service light, which is either an oilcan with a spanner though it, or the word "InSP" in the speedo odometer display - depending on age of car and whether on fixed service intervals or ecoflex intervals.

The car/spanner light is the engine electronic fault light, autobox fault light (only if you've got an auto), or a fault with the immobiliser. As the car starts, you can dismiss the last one.

If it goes out once the engine has started, then it's nothing to worry about. It's just indicating a stored but non current fault where something previously triggered a fault but is no longer there.

You can either have the fault code read out and light reset, or just wait 'x' number of days or 'x' number of clean start ups before it will clear itself.

if its the oil can with a spanner through it

You can reset the service interval countdown by pressing and holding the mileage trip, turning on the ignition (the dash lights come) and continue holding for about 30 seconds. the mileage counter will reset to 21,000 miles.

thanks for the replies guys after alot of reading of posts last night i sort of figured out eventually that it was a fault light and not the service light although i have no idea what the fault is as the car starts and runs fine!
as "Big Dave" says above i think i will just leave it and see if it goes away ! LOL
thanks for the help tho !!!!!
