    confused Safeguard....but no errors found?

I have had the safeguard mesif I leave the windows open and wave my arms.

The car was checked at my local gideas. rage where they did a scan using there software and found nothing...so any Iage for months, I cant find anyone who has had the same experience , so I hope someone can help...
The estate started setting the alarm off within seconds of locking the car, I would barley get a few feet away. This was an intermitment problem between this and the safeguard message.

The alarm will still go off if I open the windows and wave my arms through. The garage read the car diag and couldnt pick up a fault. Any ideas?

Estates have break glass sensors on the rear side windows and it's very common for them to break off causing the safeguard error, take the side supports off (that the boot cover slides along) each side and you'll see two wires going into the bottom of the glass each side.

Edit: You can see them at the top of this picture.

Cheers Ian, and if they are broke, what do you do the fix them? Is it a new glass or can they be soldered on?

Just link the two wires together to complete the circuit as what the window wires would do.

Or, I cut the connectors off and soldered the wires directly to the window tags (fixes the faults AND keeps the rear windows protected by the alarm!)

Thanks for all the help everyone but it's still not fixed!! :-(
I stripped the back as above, the connections looked fine and I took them off tried the 'Beverly Hills Cop' method and connected the plugs together with a bit of foil just to test (pretty sure this worked with a light bulb in physics many years ago) and still got the safeguard message.

I have a feeling it may be something else. Do the Vectra's have a tilt sensor under the car and if so where? I have a feeling I knocked the car some months back down a dodgy road!

as far as i know this message also comes up if your ultrasonics are duff, so this could be the cause.
my rear windows were also bringing up this message even though the connectors were fine, i joined them with a bit of wire and i havent seen the message since.
I'm sorry yours isnt as easy.

The next place to check would be the ultrasonic sensors - but you've shown that they work properly, so probably not. But there's no harm in removing the front interior light, unplugging the sensor module, cleaning up the connectors and refitting it I guess. Next place to check is the rear window demister - this is used as well as a break glass sensor. Try shorting that out (but don't turn on the demister with it like that unless you like replacing fuses ). There is a tilt sensor, but I can't find out whether it's a separate sensor, or part of the alarms control module itself.
