    Default 1.9cdti turbo

    Hi guys,
    I'm new to posting so here goes.
    I have a 2005 1.9cdti 120 sri vectra and its had a whining turbo now for about 2 years but after its MOT yesterday now sounds really bad and is getting a little underpowered if reved hard.
    I'm looking to change the turbo out but do it as cheap as possible due it only being a runner around and being poor, lol.
    I can get a secondhand turbo for £120 of a 70,000 mile car.
    My question is, are the turbos of a 1.9cdti 120 preface lift model all the same? is it just a simple swap, like for like?

    its not really worth getting a second hand turbo but if you do check for play in the shafts as this can indictate it being worn , check the impellors for damage etc , try go down the reconditioned route as with these you get 12 months guarrantee . the best way to attack a turbo change on z19dth/z19dt's is to go through the front remove bumper , reinforcer and rad pack , drain coolant before removal of rad , then its just a swap over job changing all the gaskets as you go, change the oil filter once you have built it all back up . this isnt a terribly hard job just time consuming

    I plan to strip mine down to clean the VNT mechanism and plan to go in through the front. Mines a 120 too.

    Are the turbos off all 120 prefacelift models the same then? does the air con rad need to be removed? is the aircon system under pressure?
