I think the x type would be a step back in time to be honest. Its a rebodied mondeo iirc. Go for the impreza, those flat fours sound amazing!

I have no experience of either tho so just my opinion there

Interesting choice and not as clear cut. Scooby is the more hardcore handling machine but very basic inside. The Jag is a very nice place to be, loads of kit as standard, and handles surprisingly well - its 4wd is split 60/40 rear/front. Get the transfer box overhauled - new seals and oil - by a specialist as they can be a weak point. The V6 is 240bhp as it has a different top end than its counterparts in Ford (ST220) The diesel is a Ford, hardy but a little unrefined, but can be remapped of course.

Also Scooby mpg is epically bad.

lol with an impreza theres a reason the mpg is poor cos of raw power and big smile, 1.8 vectra that eats juice for no good reason just gets on my t1ts

Was just thinking that! No way they're going to be cheaper to run than the Vec!

Scoob all the way. If you're buying the jag you may as well get a Mondeo. They don't handle very well and aren't particularly fast. The scoob on the other hand will put a smile on your face every time you wind it past 3500 revs!
