    Default Common Fuel Rail?

    Hi all.
    Car has been playing up lately. Started 80miles ago just as it was starting to warm up, I pull from a roundabout then bang, sounded like someone threw a spanner in the engine, couldnt get much power then all within 10seconds it was fine. I got it home then took it out again which same happened, then after that it was fine, pulling well etc nothing out of the ordinary.
    80miles later it happened again, sounds as if something is hanging off under car ( its not) plus all sorts of banging like it wants to jump out.

    So I took it to the garage, no fault codes or warning lights, but they did a test with the return fuel line which I presume was ok. I suspected SCV but dont think all the symptoms are there. Garage basically said could be SCV or more likely fuel rail but to wait untill it gets worse or theres a code.

    Looked at getting extended warranty, cheapest I could find is £235 (if they pay out that is). Anyone heard of fuel rail need changing? and costs?

    Car is 2006, Z30dt, fuel filter apparantly changed at last service 5k ago. Use sainsburys fuel with redex and Vpower now and again.

    Before condemning the rail, get some actual data taken.

    rail fill time, pressures etc.

    try another garage of needs be. As waiting to go off a code isn't a very good diagnosis really

    I don't really understand how the rail might fail, it's just a cast rail with no moving parts, if it's not leaking..... When my SCV's started to fail i had the same power loss, then sudden surge symptom, but not with bad noises, other from the drivers seat.....Might be a failing injector

    Are you doing anything out of the ordinary when it dies? As I discovered recently, if the fuel rail pressure shoots up too high, it'll cut the engine and you'll hear a ****** loud bang from the drivetrain and the springs in the DMF. Although in my case (on a 1.9) it logged an error code.

    Nothing out of the ordinary, from memory it may have been when I was accelerating in second. Doesn't sound as smooth when starting from cold either,can hear a slight fluctuation(more so than before). From cold it used to be a bit jerky around 1800rpm when slightly on the throttle and letting go, seems a bit more noticable now but then again it did it when car was fine so maybe that's just characteristic of the engine.
    The main problem is yet to reoccur.
