Boot light and rear de-mist not working

Hi,

As the thread title says my interior boot light doesn't work and neither do the bottom 4 strips for rear window de-mist.

Before I go digging around this week, I just wanted to check if anyone knows if these could be connected and if it's something simple like a blown fuse?

There is no fuse common to both. In any case the rear screen fuse must be ok if some of the lines on the rear screen are working. There must be a break in the element lines somewhere on the screen.

There is no fuse that supplies just the boot light(s). Do the interior lights and sun visor lights (if fitted) work? If so, the fault is NOT likely to be the often troublesome ribbon cables.

Firstly you need to work out if the fault is on the supply side or the ground side of the lamp. Pull out the boot lamp. If you have a multimeter, check for continuity between the brown/white wire and chassis ground. This side of the boot lamp (brown and white wire) is connected to ground via a switch in the boot lid/tailgate and through connectors X24-1 pin 8, XR6 pin 18 and XR4 pin A2.

If the ground side is ok then it must be because we don't have 12v on the red wire. (Or the bulb is blown!) This is fed from the interior light circuit in the rear module by a connection from XR4 pin C9.

Remember to open and close a door every few minutes when fault tracing as the supply to the interior lights and boot light shuts off automatically after about ten minutes which can confuse!
