Default Who displays "baby on board" signs?

A bloke at work was having a right moan about this and it made me think. He was saying just because you have this doesnt mean an accident can be avoided. Hence why its called accident nobody wants to have one no matter what signs are on display. He was saying just beacause you display this sign doesnt mean time can be reversed in the event of an accident so it never happened! So whats the point! Whats your opinions or other reasons of displaying the sign? Someone said it might stop the typical aggressive driver tailgating, but i dont think it would stop it as people that drive irratically like an idiot wouldnt care if it said child on board or not. So is it just a pointless sign!

About the only practical use would be in the event of an incident where any adults are notable to speak, possibly to identify if a small child was in the vehicle to the rescue services.

The downside is displaying such a sign all the time may mean those rescue services having to take unnecessary risks believing an unaccounted for child is in the vehicle, when there is none.

I heard its to let emergency services know there is or maybe a child in the car incase of a serious accident. Dunno how true it is but sorta makes senae if a vehicle rolls and the driver is unconcious and cannot say they had a child with them, they may miss crutial moments in finding them and helping the child

Yea i suppose that makes sense, but surely the emergency services would beable to establish that by car seats etc.. And dont really need a sign.

Again yeah. I have 2 car sears in my siggy but have no children myself but have my neice and nephew alot but wander if somthing happened without them in the car the emergency services would maybe think i did have a child. I know this sounds nasty but i would prefer them to look and find noone just incase!!

Well Beardy there is a perfect example ... assume it's a 'dry' crash..... F&R can take their time and cut things away until they establish there are no remaining casualties ...

Now assume it's a crash and fire ... some poor firefighter now has to risk being closer to a burning petrol container on wheels because they can see child seats....

Granted we could all argue the 'what ifs' from now till doomsday, but it's still something to think about.

I suppose it may just give some people comfort hoping they wont be a victim of tailgating or roadrage! We all know sometimes these type of drivers cannot be avoided! Roads would be nice if they could be avoided! But in rose bushes theres always a ***** somewhere.
Emergency services carnt be too much involved with the use of the sign or it would be made compulsary when carrying kids. So they most use initiative & instinct by like we say car seats in car etc..etc..

I don't think it's for accidents or tailgaters, its clearly for people that have just had a baby and want to let everyone know, usually purchased by the mother under the illusion of increasing safety for bragging purposes. I was bought a 'twins on board' sign which I had nothing but comtempt for and refused to fit... much like the stick family decals. As you may have guessed. .. I dont do stickers

Their ability to see might just depend on how squashed down the roof is of how on fire the car is.
